Tryouts for the Boys/Girls Varisty and JV Tennis Teams will start on Monday, March 2 at the Laurelhurst Community Center Tennis Courts, from 3:00 to approximately 6:00.  If it rains, please report to the school gym.  After Monday, tryouts will be divided into two locations: Laurelhurst and Upper Woodland.  Tryouts will resume all week, through Friday, March 6.

Reminders:

  • All paperwork and fees - must be turned in to be eligible for try outs. (deadline was Feb. 23)
  • Parents’ Meeting, Monday, March 9 @ 6 pm in The Commons – Once the Varsity and JV rosters are posted, parents of all players should plan to attend this meeting so Coach Karlovich can disperse important information and review expectations for the coming season.

Tennis Update from Coach Karlovich

Dear parents and players,

This is from coach Karlovich about what I know so far about this season’s spring tennis season:

  1. We have moved out of Kingco 4A into to Metro 3A.
  2. We are now a co-ed tennis team.
  3. We are moving from 7 matches during a match with another school to 11 matches.  This will consist of 3 boys’ singles, 3 girls’ singles, 2 boys’ doubles, 2 girls’ doubles, and 1 mixed doubles.  This means that I will have a minimum of 16 players of each gender to play a match.  I will probably carry 10+ of each to make sure we will always have enough to play a match in case of illness or injuries, etc.
  4. We will be playing a 10 match season with some schools (for example Blanchet) being played twice.
  5. Our home matches will be played at Lower Woodland.
  6. I do not have a match schedule yet, but I have a coaches meeting on February 24th and will put out the schedule after that meeting.
  7. We will have a JV team, but it will not play opposite the varsity matches as in the past where if the varsity would have a home match at Lower Woodland then the JV would play an away match at the opposing high school.  The JV schedule will be given out, hopefully, after the coaches meeting.
  8. The JV will play their home matches at Laurelhurst Park tennis courts.
  9. At this time I don’t know how large the JV team will be.  The size of the team will depend on how many players turn out and how many our JV coach can effectively coach and keep on the team.
  10. Our court situation for JV is as follows we will be trading back and forth with Blanchet on using the Upper Woodland’s four courts and the East Greenlake’s three courts.  That schedule will depend on our and Blanchet’s numbers.
  11. Our first day of tryouts are on Monday, March 2nd at 3:00 pm at the Laurelhurst Park courts.  Players should show up having all fees paid, all paperwork done, and a current physical (all need to be turned into school office by Feb. 23).  They should also have a tennis racket and tennis gear, ready to play.  They will be playing for places on either the varsity team and the JV team.
  12. Because of the number of courts we will have for practice and playing, they will probably be cuts.  This will depend on the numbers that show up and the skill level of the players.
  13. I will have a preseason meeting in early February for all interested players.  I will gather contact information from all the players to pass on to our parent tennis coordinators.

This is the current situation.  If you have any questions please e-mail me at lkarlovich@seattleschools.org.

Thanks,

Coach Karlovich
